| Pizza Night at the Women & Children's Homeless centerA successful night for all at last week's Pizza and Movie night at the Women & Children's Homeless center at Broward Outreach.
The kids were given toys, pizza, popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, juice boxes and candy. The movie was Finding Nemo, and even the teenagers were enthusiastic about watching it. We received a round of applause when we left.
Coincidentally, it was one of the mother's birthday and she was beyond appreciative for the HWC providing a pizza party. It made her birthday feel special she said.

| Foundation Restoration and Ramp Construction Project (2012-2013)The GFWC Hollywood Women's Club, Foundation Restoration & Ramp Construction Project is underway! This project (Grant No. S1323) has been financed in part with historic preservation grant assistance provided by the Bureau of Historic Preservation, Division of Historical Resources, Florida Department of State, assisted by the Florida Historical Commission.
The Clubhouse built in 1927, has extensive structural damage to the foundation, with corresponding sinking of the walls on both the north and south sides, and deflection of the interior flooring. Constructed using beach sand, there are no piles supporting the building, and a sub-soil report indicates an unstable base of muck and peat. The structure is in a high-water zone with frequent flooding, contributing to the erosion of the foundation.
To preserve the structural integrity of this landmark, it is proposed that the building be lifted for demolition of the original concrete foundatition, helical pilings installed and a new foundation constructed. To address the original accessibility limitations, construction of a handicap ramp with hand rails and handicap parking are also proposed.
Stay tuned as we continue to update throughout the construction process!
